Naga Chokkanathan

Play with me By Ananth

Back wrapper of this book has an interesting note “This book is an entertainment device and does not require batteries”.

I don’t know if Penguin Books started printing this in all their books, or this is a special note for this particular novel. But it fits to the theme perfectly.

This is a novel for the young in heart. Eventhough the front wrapper text (and few scenes inside the novel) are explicitly sexual, the main story line is really strong, keeping these elements as secondary. It is the story of Sid, who is a photographer with a modern life style. He meets Cara and then starts loving another woman. That’s the base for this simple, short novel. It has all the right ingredients: interesting characters, lovely dialogues, youthful backdrop for scenes and right twists at the right place.

Like his hero Sid, Author Ananth is a photographer too. His first novel ‘Play with me’ makes an interesting read.
